c.1930s Vanta Laboratories Baby Travel Bath Kit, United States

This compact travel bath kit is presented in its original blue printed cardboard box with decorative infant imagery and period typography. The set remains substantially complete and contains two cylindrical baby powder containers, a glass bottle of baby oil with original label, wrapped baby soap,and a small blue wash cloth. The inside lid retains the original printed product information sheet titled “Your Baby’s Protection,” promoting the hygienic andprotective qualities of the Vanta range. The exterior box is marked “Vanta BathKit for the Baby – Travel Size” with Style No. 275-B printed on the underside.

Vanta Laboratories operated from Newton, Massachusetts, and produced babytoiletries and healthcare products during the early to mid-20th century. The graphic styling, packaging construction, and advertising language strongly suggest manufacture during the 1930s, although similar branding continued into the 1940s. The use of pastel tones, idealised baby imagery, and coordinated toiletry packaging reflects the growing commercialisation of infant care products during this period in America.

Travel baby kits such as this were designed for convenience when visiting family, travelling by train, or taking outings with infants. Compact boxed toiletry sets became increasingly popular as modern parenting products expanded in the interwar years. Surviving complete examples are less common due to the fragile nature of the packaging and consumable contents, making intact setsdesirable to collectors of nursery items, advertising memorabilia, and earlybaby care ephemera.
