Paris Doll Company, based in the United States, was active during the 1940s through the 1960s and is known for producing a range of hard plastic dolls during the post-war boom in toy manufacturing. Their dolls were designed to compete with other American makers such as Ideal and American Character, offering durable construction and appealing, life like features. The transition to hard plastic during this period marked a significant advancement over earlier composition dolls, allowing for improved longevity and finish.

Walker dolls like Peggy were designed to enhance interactive play, with an internal mechanism enabling the doll to simulate walking when guided. This feature was highly popular during the 1950s, aligning with a broader trend toward realismand companionship in children’s toys. Larger dolls such as this example were often marketed as premium items, encouraging nurturing and imaginative play.

Paris Doll Company
Paris Doll Company was an American doll manufacturer active primarily during the mid-20th century (c.1940s–1960s), producing dolls during a period of rapid growth in the United States toy industry following World War II. Despite its name suggesting a European connection, the company operated within the U.S. market, a common branding approach used to evoke sophistication and fashion appeal. The company is best known for dolls such as the Peggy Paris line, which reflects the transition from earlier composition materials into hard plastic and vinyl construction, aligning with broader industry changes of the time. These dolls typically featured sleep eyes, rooted or wigged hair, and more refined moulding compared to earlier wartime dolls, indicating the improving manufacturing capabilities of the post-war period. Paris Doll Company products were marketed as affordable yet stylish play dolls and were distributed through department stores and retail outlets across the United States. Many examples are marked, though variations exist, and identification is often supported through comparison with known catalogued dolls and collector references. Today, Paris Doll Company dolls are collected as part of the wider history of American doll manufacturing, representing a transitional era where design, materials, and mass production began to modernise rapidly.
