A mid-20th century pull-along elephant toy made from moulded soft vinyl/rubber, mounted on a green wheeled base and pulled by cord.

This charming pull-along elephant is a classic example of the animal-on-wheels toys commonly sold to toddlers during the post-war boom years. The elephant figure is moulded in soft vinyl/rubber and finished in grey with airbrushed shading, with a long raised trunk and painted facial details. It is fixed to a green platform base fitted with four red wheels and a pull cord at the front.

While the toy is unmarked, its materials and construction are consistent with mass-produced pull toys widely imported into Australia and other markets during the 1950s–1960s. Many similar toys were manufactured in Japan in the 1950s and, increasingly, in Hong Kong and other Asian manufacturing centres from the early 1960s onward. Without a maker’s mark, the exact origin cannot be confirmed, so the dating and origin are given as an informed range.
