2007 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs 70th Anniversary Trinket Box

This hexagonal porcelain trinket or jewellery box was produced in 2007 to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Walt Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which premiered in 1937.

Rather than being offered as ordinary retail merchandise, the box was created for Disney’s 2007 Family Holiday Celebration and distributed exclusively to Disney cast, crew and Imagineers. Surviving examples are consequently commonly identified as Disney Cast Member exclusives.

The cream-coloured porcelain has been given a deliberately antiqued finish, with sepia and muted colour illustrations inspired by characters and scenes from the original animated film. The lid depicts Snow White dancing alongside Dopey and carries the Walt Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs title.

Six illustrated panels surround the sides of the box, depicting Snow White, theSeven Dwarfs, the Evil Queen, the Prince and other scenes and characters fromthe film.

Inside the base is an illustration of Snow White beside the wishing well carrying the words “Disney Family Holiday Celebration”, “Because of you, dreams come true” and the date “2007”. The underside of the lid commemorates the anniversary withportraits of the Seven Dwarfs surrounding a prominent “70th” emblem and the words “Celebrating 70 years of magic with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”.

The underside of the box is decorated with the handwritten-style title “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”, accompanied by heart motifs, together with the Disneycopyright and “Made in Thailand” markings.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was Walt Disney’s first full-length animatedfeature and became one of the most significant films in the history of animation. Released in 1937, its 70th anniversary fell in 2007, providing the occasion for this commemorative Disney employee gift.

The box is particularly interesting as a piece of Disney corporate history as well ascharacter merchandise. Its distribution specifically to people working for Disney connects it with the company’s tradition of recognising cast members through commemorative holiday gifts and keepsakes.
