A Mother’s Day to Remember

Vintage Road Trip Through the Swan Valley for Mothers Day.

What an amazing adventure it turned out to be — an early Mother's Day trip planned by my daughter, filled with charm, nostalgia, and all things vintage. She knows me so well that she told me, “I’m taking you on a vintage road show,” and that’s exactly what it felt like.

Our first stop was the Settlers Markets, a delightful mix of food stalls, local makers, a fascinating honey exhibition, and a small but lovely museum. We even discovered Sin Gin tucked away beside a display from a talented local author. It was the perfect blend of old and new — full of handmade charm and country creativity.

Next, we pulled into The Barn, and even the car park was a sight to see. Old machinery parts had been turned into a rustic sculpture trail, guiding us in. Inside, I was in heaven — surrounded by vintage household pieces, quirky furniture, old toys, and more hidden treasures than I could take in at once. It was like walking through someone’s carefully preserved memories.

Then came the sweet stuff… quite literally.
We popped into the Margaret River Chocolate Factory for a little treat, followed by a delicious lunch at a local tapas bar. Of course, we couldn’t leave without grabbing a few goodies from Nourish Nuts and enjoying a relaxed cuppa at PEK Café.

But the highlight for me?

The Rustic Gallery — full of character and creativity. I fell in love with the textures, the old timber, the way everything felt like it had a story to tell. And then there was Annie’s Collective Wonderland… Oh, I could’ve stayed there for hours. Every corner held something delightful, from vintage finds to locally crafted gems. It was truly a wonderland for someone like me.

This trip reminded me why I started My Doll Cottage in the first place — it’s about more than dolls and toys. It’s about the feeling you get when something from the past whispers to your heart. It’s about preserving the stories, the moments, and the joy of discovering something once loved.

To anyone looking for a day out full of character and connection — I can’t recommend a vintage road trip through the Swan Valley enough. It’s a journey through time, and if you’re lucky enough to have someone plan it just for you, it’s one you’ll treasure forever.

With love
